Acute Inpatient Care

Acute inpatient hospitalization occurs only with a physician's order for conditions that cannot be safely or effectively treated on an outpatient basis. It is the most intensive level of care offered, providing 24-hour skilled nursing observation; daily interventions and oversight by a psychiatrist; and intensive, highly coordinated treatment by a physician-led team of mental health professionals. Inpatient hospitalization is always short-term and designed to quickly stabilize the most serious symptoms to allow a quick transition to less intensive levels of care.

West Hills Hospital offers acute inpatient care for adults, adolescents ages 13-18, and children ages 4-12. Dual diagnosis programs are available for adults and adolescents with a secondary chemical dependency diagnosis.

Advantages of Acute Inpatient:

  • Safe, controlled, structured environment

  • Physician-led multidisciplinary treatment team
  • Able to utilize both medication and psychotherapy, as appropriate
  • Medically supervised detoxification (for alcohol and drugs)
  • Intensive treatment not available on an outpatient basis
  • Tutorial-based school program available
  • Up to 10 hours of daily programming
  • Seven-day-a-week programming

Adult Chemical Dependency Program: Your Road To Recovery

Medical Detoxification

West Hills’ chemical detoxification program is supervised by Dr. Eric Lamberts, who is a Fellow of American Academy of Family Practice and is certified by the American Society of Addiction Medicine. With his 28 years of experience, Dr. Lamberts brings expertise, dedication and the highest quality of care to our patients. The program consists of a 3-5 day inpatient stay under the supervision of Dr. Lamberts, addictions counselors and nursing staff.

Inpatient Rehabilitation

In addition to the medical detox, a 14-day inpatient rehabilitation program allows our patients to benefit from the most effective addiction treatment — a combination of medication and counseling. Our patients attend five daily group therapy sessions with experienced addictions counselors who encourage them to examine negative feelings, cope with daily stressors, and learn skills to help prevent relapse.

Intensive Outpatient Program

Our chemical dependency intensive outpatient program (CD-IOP) is focused on recovery and relapse prevention and is composed of process, therapy and psycho-educational groups. It runs four times per week (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday) from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., with a light dinner served at every meeting.

Aftercare

Free aftercare groups are held every Wednesday 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Aftercare groups are designed to provide ongoing long-term support for clients who completed the CD-IOP series or the inpatient detoxification program.
